Hiking & Trails
Check out the many trails around the Middle Fork American River area for hiking and running -- for every type of outdoor enthusiast.
There is something for everyone near or on the Middle Fork whether you are mountain biking or a taking leisurely walk toward a secluded waterfall.
The McGuire Trail in the French Meadows area is a part of the infamous Western States Trail. It winds through timber areas and follows the north shore of French Meadows Reservoir.
The short trail is a moderate climb to the top of Red Star Ridge, offering scenic views that are easily enjoyed by the entire family. Horseback riding is also outstanding on this trail.
Located on the north west shore of French Meadows Campground, the Poppy Trail is located on the northwest shore of French Meadows Reservoir. This 1.6-mile trail leads to 12 campgrounds, restrooms and is only accessible by trail or boat. For more info on mountain biking, hiking, and horse trails see Auburn SRA Trails (ca.gov)
